Attention Harvest is a VR interactive experience to critique the situation that most of the social media and internet companies capture and resell their user’s attention to make profits. This project lays bare the true nature of a ubiquitous reality of the Internet world full of distracting advertisings. Attention Harvest uses an interactive and immersive way to narrate and critique this true reality to its audience, to recall people to reflect the phenomenon of which individual’s cyber life under the control of the exploitative business model.

This VR project tracks player’s gaze movement during the whole experience and at the same time, to record down which items the player was looked at and how long each object has been looked at. The watching data will be ranked automatically on the background and in the later part of this experience, it will become the database to load disturbing items, in order to impede the gaming process to exploit player’s attention in this virtual world. The player’s behavior tracking and real-time rendering are for exposing the truth which of almost all platforms are accessing user’s online data and behavior to analyze their preference, in order to target them as various audience group to deliver ads in their offered service.
