Tacticon

Robotic toy simulation

Tacticon is an animatronic toy supporting a first person shooter game with simulated terrain. How is the real robotic game experience different from a role-playing game on a digital console? Can the tactile animatronic nature of the avatars and environment engage players more deeply? Will the mechanized GI-Joe like toys inspire further exploration on the part of the players through hacking and digital making? This prototype suggests a new problem space and further directions for investigation.
