The poor health of our world’s oceans is problematic for all of humanity: and it’s getting worse. Though all people need to know more about this issue, OceanStory is a design intervention aimed at young people, who are still in the process of forming their behavior patterns to the ocean.

My thesis research focuses on how theories of environmental science and sustainability,
particularly in the areas of oceanography and marine health, are being taught to primary school children, and how these methods might be improved through participatory design. Ocean Story is an interactive installation that explores the relationship between ocean health and human intervention.

It is also an experiment in gameplay-based narrative structure. Can giving young people
choices and consequences through interactive technology be leveraged to help them understand the impact they have on the ocean environment?
